Last week the topic of non-main street indie girl groups came up with the discussion of The Chefs and the mentioning of the likes of Kleenex and Trixies Big Red Motorbike. Today, let me ask about one of the more obscure groups, no, not The Fire Hydrant Men Featuring The Fabulous Fezettes, but rather The Kamikaze Sex Pilots/The Kamikaze Pilots! Now what was their deal? I’ve got two singles by them: Dark Night of Soul b/w Red Indian Song (Lowther HCN002 1983) and Sharon Signs to Cherry Red b/w It Goes Boing (Lowther HCN003, 1985) as well as a fabulous track entitled “Sharon’s Been Deflowered” on the Obscure Independent Classics Volume 1 (Cordelia ERICAT003 1984). Did they release anything else? Where were they from? What else came out on Lowther International Records? Next time I'll ask about the Calloways great single "Slouching Off to Kalamazoo" from 1984 on the Wonderful World of Records label! Matthew Kaplan np Atilla The Stockbroker: Live At The Rivoli
