The Fischers hail from Blackburn, Lancashire, England. Singer and guitarist Jamie Holman founded the band after the demise of his previous outfit Tompaulin with members of fellow Lancashire outfits The Burn & Maupa. The band played their first gigs just four weeks after forming. Joining Holman are David Boon (bass guitar/vocals), Lee Walsh (drums/vocals) and Matt Glynn (guitar).

The band have picked up the plaudits on the basis of their live appearances. Tangents wrote that they play rather fabulous indiepop songs that do all the right things in all the right places whilst Pennyblackmusic declared, after seeing them live, that they were now one of their favourite new bands which is high praise indeed. Sounds XP wrote that The Fischers are tapping into the same sort of mythic American songpool as the Jesus and Mary Chain, the Velvets and Galaxie 500.
